The Good Elephant

This is a story about a boy putting himself in extreme danger to save an elephant.  The elephant returns that favour years later, albeit in a way that both terrifies and excites the boy.

“Being a brave sixteen year old I thought I should do something to save the animal.  I picked up three or four large stones that I could see and aimed one at the poacher.  What a throw that was!  The stone hit him smack dab on his right funny bone.  The sudden pain caused the poacher to drop his right hand from the rifle.  His shot went well wide of the elephant.  The poacher quickly turned around and pointed the rifle in my direction and I thought he was going to shoot me but he could not grip it properly because of his sore elbow.  The second stone I threw hit him just above his right eye.  His shot also went wide of its mark – me – by a long way.”

The Good Polar Bear

This story is written for six to twelve year olds and gives the good advice that one should always tell someone else about their intentions.

“It had been a bitterly cold month in the Arctic in far Northern Canada -40 degrees daily to be precise. The temperature does get colder than that and sometimes for weeks at a time. How would you like that? You would definitely need your winter undies.

There are some animals that can survive this freezing cold weather and one of these is the polar bear. The polar bear and the Kodiak bear (which lives in Alaska) are both monsters standing up to 3 meters tall which can be properly described as humungous and share the title of the world’s largest bear. They are also very, very dangerous.”

The Good Dolphin

This book is written for six to twelve year olds. It shows that girls and boys equally show the same courage, strength and determination in real life and do not have to prove a thing.

“Scuba divers normally do not swim alone and like to dive in twos or more. Each diver has the job of looking out for the unexpected and checking on the safety, whereabouts and condition of the others. Each diver is a buddy for another. Nikki was diving just off the coast of Western Australia investigating a small coral reef which is part of the territory of the white pointer (also called great white shark). It was therefore no surprise that she and her buddy came face to face with a great white on their first dive of the day.”
