Maree had just started to move the bale where Slithers was, by pushing it along the floor, when Imogen ran in front of the tractor. She had realised that Slithers had not become aware of the tractor and Imogen had to protect and save him. Maree braked hard not to hurt Imogen and some bales fell off the tractor’s front forks onto Imogen.
Imogen cried with pain and it was clear that two things had happened. The first was that Slithers was able to move out of danger, allowing the rat to escape and, the second was that a falling bale had broken Imogen’s leg.
